Thunderbird district would like to say that our 2008 Spring Camporee was fantastic! Judging by the smiles on our boys' faces, it seems a good time was had by all! Everything from the events, the food, the merit badges that the boys had to work on, to the absolute ideal weather ensured a successful Camporee!

A special spotlight thank you to Julie Lansing and Troop 927 for the countless hours of planning and execution of this year's event. She was exemplary in keeping everyone in the loop. Julie is an excellent example of what a volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America should be! We are proud to have you in Thunderbird district! Thank you to all of the units who came out to participate! I look forward to seeing you at our Fall Camporee!

Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard C. Parks graciously attended the Den 7 Alligators first den meeting of the year on Sept. 11, 2007. The boys found his presence captivating, and the councilman was instrumental in the boys’ earning the Webelos Citizen badge. Thank you Councilman Parks!

It is with great sadness that I bring you this news. Our Scoutmaster and loving friend, John Barriga, passed away. Our heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with Windri, John Jr., Stephany, Elyse and the Barriga family.

Each of us need to reflect upon all the great things that John Barriga did for our troop, the community and us individually, he touched each of our hearts.

John Barriga’s Memorial Celebration
Thursday, October 11th at 11 am
Westchester United Methodist Church Sanctuary, located at 8065 Emerson Avenue

This memorial is a celebration of John’s life and the great legacy he has left us with.  Scouts and adult leaders should be in Class “A” uniform to show our respect and tribute to John. If you are wearing casual clothes, please dress in colorful attire, this is a celebration of his life. A reception will be held in Fellowship Hall after the service. In lieu of flowers: donations may be made to the Barriga Memorial Fund at Westchester United Methodist Church.

The Centennial Celebration at Universal Studios photos are now available on the LA Council Website. To see photos from Scouts around the world - China to the UK - celebrating the same August 1 sunrise visit Yahoo News.
