Course #2 Registration Why Wood Badge?
  The L.A.A.C. Wood Badge Course

Course #1 - August 21-23 and September 18-20, 2009

Course #2 - September 10-12 and October 8-10, 2009

Lord Baden-Powell wanted his volunteer leaders to experience leadership by looking at it from the perspective of the youth.  Wood Badge for the 21st Century was developed to help volunteers, like yourself, learn the skills you need to provide leadership to your youth.

In May 2008, a record number of 50 dedicated volunteers from Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and Venturing came together to live and learn.

What they learned was: What they lived was:

Valuing, recognizing, and applying different forms of communication

Recognizing, appreciating and using diversity

Managing conflict

Building a personal vision of Scouting for the youth

Meaning of the Scout Oaths and Laws

The patrol method

Games with a purpose

These dedicated volunteers spent 6 days over 2 weekends living and learning the leadership skills taught during this outstanding course.  But, not all their education was complete – in fact it is just beginning!  During their time “on the hill” participants developed five personal visions of success, called “Tickets”.  These goals reinforce the lessons and are accomplished once they are back with their units.

The Tickets are developed so they create a visible difference in the unit’s and youth’s program.  It is this outward appearance of their commitment, whether it is in their Unit, District or Council, that makes a difference.  When your program is enhanced your youth are the benefactors!  A better program means that more youth will become, and more importantly stay, involved in the Scouting movement.

To identify these committed volunteers – those with vision and goals – just look for the MacClaren tartan (green plaid) neckerchief.  Also, look for the mauve neckerchief with the MacClaren tartan patch on it for those who have completed their Tickets.  Ask them how you can help make a difference and how taking this course will help you.

The Los Angeles Area Council wishes to thank 2008 Course Director, Wesley Romberger and his Staff, for the leadership they provided.  If you are one of those leaders who are out to make a difference, and are interested in attending Wood Badge in 2009, please follow the link for more information.
